In every Pokemon game, anime, and manga, the hero is regularly attacked by criminals. Presumably the off-shore slave trade is kept healthy by Team Rocket and company's abductions of all the ten-year old trainers who are not Player One.

So, I saw the first episode of TNT's new show "Falling skies." Basically post apocalyptic world that's been invaded by aliens who seem to have the whole spider leg thing going on.
At the end of hte first episode, our hero actually says that he's going to leave the 300 people he's been told to protect and help to go back after his son who has been mindwiped by the aliens.
It is explicitly stated that the humans are retreating because they don't know how to fight the bugs. Our hero is apparently second-in-command over 200 civilians who really do need his help. But, no, he plans on leaving...
